William T. Tilden III '10

Bill Tilden '10 is being inducted into the Hall of Fame because of his outstanding career in tennis. In 1920, he became the first American tennis player to win the men's singles at Wimbledon and went on to dominate the sport worldwide for a decade. He captured the men's singles championship at Wimbledon again in 1921 and 1930 and also the men's doubles title in 1927. As a member of two Davis teams from 1920-1930, Bill won 21 of 28 cup matches and helped the U.S. team hold the trophy for seven straight years. He passed away on June 5, 1953.
